With the way the game develops and branches off into different worlds, perspectives, realities (dead, alive, will live, will die, has lived, has died, etc.), it's time to take a look at the different ways that Booker DeWitt could have possibly lived and died, with some from canon and some from sheer speculation.
WAYS IT COULD HAVE BEEN
Tear Sickness - Booker becomes self-aware of the different lives he's lived (all failed in) and loses himself to the memories trying to seep through. He should be dead but he isn't, and it messes with him hard.
He Never Came - DeWitt never creates that idea of 'bring us the girl, wipe away the debt'. He lives as a rough drunkard who has a gambling problem but manages to shake off the hounds.
Die like a Dog
For the Vox
She doesn't Exist - There has only been Anna DeWitt, his daughter.
New York, You're Bringing Me Down - Elizabeth gets killed and her death triggers a violent reaction within Booker.
